FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Are sessions confidential? 

Yes, therapy is absolutely confidential. This means that your therapist won't share anything discussed in session with others. Since your therapist is a mandated reporter, exceptions to confidentiality are safety-related: suspicion of harm to self or others, elder abuse, child abuse, or court order.

What does starting therapy look like? 

Therapy starts where you are. In your first appointment, your therapist will ask some questions to get to know you. You and your therapist will have a discussion about what brings you to therapy and your hope for therapy. You and your therapist will collaborate to create goals together in subsequent sessions. 

Therapy provides you with a space where you can release and process painful emotions in a safe and healing environment. Even though taking the first step can be anxiety provoking, on the other side of that step lies hope, healing, and positive transformation.

How do I know if my therapist is a good fit?

 

A strong therapeutic relationship (rapport) is the most important factor of success in therapy. A good therapist-client relationship includes mutual respect. You should feel affirmed, heard, and validated. It's important to ask yourself if you feel comfortable, authentic and genuine with your therapist. 

 

Therapy works when you are able to explore vulnerable and painful aspects of your life. When clients can feel hopeful about therapy and choose a therapist who they feel comfortable with, this increases the likelihood that their therapeutic experience will be helpful to them.

All Telehealth sessions are conveniently provided online using a secure HIPAA compliant platform. All you need is a phone, tablet or computer, a private, quiet space for sessions and internet access to get started. 

If you are experiencing any COVID-related symptoms, clients are encouraged to reschedule or meet via Telehealth.

Do you accept insurance? 

We accept Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, United Healthcare, Oxford, and Oscar Health. 

 

If we are out of network with your insurance provider, we can provide a receipt (commonly referred to as a "superbill") with appropriate details for you to request reimbursement from your insurance carrier if applicable.  Many clients are able to obtain at least some reimbursement from their insurance provider for mental health services.   

If you will be using out of network benefits, we recommend that you ask your insurance company the following questions: 

  • Do I have “out of network mental health benefits”?

  • If so, how much or what percentage of session fees are covered?​

  • How do I submit claims in order to receive reimbursement?

  • How long does it take to receive a reimbursement check?

  • Is there a session limit, deductible, or pre-authorization required?

What is your cancellation policy? 

Your appointment time is specifically reserved for you. A 24-hour notice to cancel or reschedule is required. Missed appointments or late cancellations may be charged for the full rate of the session.
